Obama after election- “The path of this country has never been a straight line, we zig and zag…”

Our News

President Obama addressed the America for the first time following the results of Tuesday’s Presidential election and seemed surprisingly optimistic about the country moving forward. This current election has made politics spill into every other part of our lives where we try to keep politics out of it. He reminded us of one thing that I think WE HAVE to remember,

We are actucally all on one team, this is a n intramural scrimmage. We are not Democrats first, we are not Republicans first, we are Americans first…we all want whats best for America.- Barack Obama

I agree, Americans do want whats best for the country we just disagree on how to get whats best and what is best. But the only way we can figure that out is if we work together and make compromises on all sides to move this country forward in seems what has been a stalemate over the last year or so. President Obama on Wednesday said

That is the nature of Democracy, it is hard, and sometimes contentious and noisy, and not always inspiring…- Barack Obama

That is true, there will never be a time where everyone gets what they want completely, but that doesn’t mean you sulk or berate the people who disagree with you. You work with them so both sides can get an understanding of what the other wants, and devise a plan to meet in the middle and work from there. As exhausting as this past election season was, it was something that this country needed to see that we aren’t on the same page with each and something needs to be done. You can wait 4 years until you want to discuss what you want to see done, or you can start working right now and get started on the change you would like to see.

And I leave you with this…

To the young people who got into politics for the first time and maybe disappointed by the results. I just want you to know you have to stay encourages, don’t get cynical, don’t ever think you can’t make a difference.- Barack Obama
